New Sony Ericsson Phones: K660, W890, W380

I know this post is a little late coming, but the introduction of these phones is definitely good news. 3 new Sony Ericsson phones were introduced on the 6th of November. All of them will be available starting in q1 2008. First up is the K660. This is a midrange quadband candybar handset with HSDPA and a fixed focus 2 megapixel camera. It sports stereo bluetooth support and a qvga display (something that people have been asking for for a long time on similar Sony Ericsson Phones). This phone will probably not be sold in the United States due to its lack of the right 3g bands, but it does have the 850 band as well as edge meaning that it will still work very well here if you do not need a 3g internet connection. The k660 will come in two color combinations: lime on white and wine on black. I think both of these colors look rather terrible, but to each his own. It will include a 256mb memory stick m2.

The most important and high end phone announced was the w890. It is a direct replacement to the w880, and seems to have addressed many of the issues of it. Most importantly, it has a new keypad that appears to be a large improvement on the old one. In addition, the camera is now 3.15 megapixels instead of two, however, it has no autofocus or flash. It retains the 9.9 mm thickness that made the w880 attractive to many buyers. Additional new features include edge and quadband gsm which make the phone more useful in the U.S. It does have HSDPA, but because of the lack of U.S. bands for HSDPA, this phone is unlikely to be available here through any carrier unless a new model is made. On the software side, this phone has the new Walkman 3.0 software as well as support for flash lite themes. The display seems to be the same as the Qvga one from the w880. The phone will come in Espresso Black, Mocha Brown, and Sparkling Silver. To sweeten the deal, a 2gb memory stick m2 will be included.

The third phone introduced was the w380i, a Walkman flip phone that is a replacement for the w300i. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera and a 176x220 pixel screen that measures 1.9". It also has stereo bluetooth and gesture control. One of its unique features is its strange outside oled screen. It is a triband phone with edge and will come in a version with American bands meaning that it will probably be released by some U.S. carrier. It will come in Electric Purple and Magnetic Grey. With a 512mb memory stick m2.

I think that both the W890 and W380 are very exciting phones that make great progress over their predecessors, however the k660 does not seem to bring very many new features to the table and I don't really see a purpose for it. Unfortunately, the only one of these phones that will probably be available for a cheap price from a U.S. carrier is the w380. One will, however, be able to purchase the other ones a the usually high prices for unlocked phones.
